Texas summers mean grilling season. Here’s what you need to know about fire safety and artificial turf.
Fire Resistance Facts
Quality artificial turf is fire-resistant, not fireproof. This means:
- Won’t sustain flames
- Melts rather than burns
- Self-extinguishes when heat source removed
- Meets fire safety standards
Safe Practices
Grills
- Keep grills on non-turf surfaces (pavers, concrete)
- Allow 3-4 feet clearance from turf edges
- Never drag hot grills across turf
- Watch for flying embers
Fire Pits
- Use fire pits on hard surfaces only
- Maintain 6+ feet from turf
- Consider permanent fire pit with stone surround
- Use spark screens
Fireworks
- Never use fireworks over artificial turf
- Sparklers should be on concrete
- Dispose of hot debris away from turf
If Damage Occurs
Small melted areas can often be patched. We offer repair services for minor damage. Significant burns may require section replacement.
